Books are the lifeblood of intellectual life in today’s society. There are those who trumpeted the death of the written word with the advent of the internet, but the printed page marches on, oblivious to the cries of obsolescence. Yes, the internet provides huge amounts of information in the blink of an eye, but there’s something special about sitting down with a book. It means more somehow. Computers have flash and flair, but books have soul. That being said, how does one go about reconciling the two? Ask the folks at Barnes and Noble…they seem to have a pretty good idea. They have been in the book-selling business for years, and now have put together a pretty darned good online bookstore. The colors and images combine to make a nice aesthetic, and the layout makes for an easy shopping experience. What makes BN.com special, however, is volume. With over 750,000 titles on their virtual shelves, you’ll be hard pressed to want something that they don’t have. They also offer magazine subscriptions, audio books, music, and movies. One of the neatest features of the site, however, allows the user to take a variety of courses online. These are obviously people who genuinely care about their customers, and their website reflects that. This site is simply fantastic; a real pleasure to use. If you are looking to buy books or any number of other things online, make BN.com one of your first stops. It may just be your last. |
