Books are wonderful things. They allow us to learn, to imagine, and sometimes to escape. The written word is a valuable resource, even in this day of all-encompassing electronic media. Just because we’re surrounded with technological options doesn’t mean we don’t want and need printed pages. There’s something deeply satisfying about curling up with a good book. You don’t need to be in front of a computer, or even inside. You can read a book anywhere, and you can’t beat the price…especially with book clubs. Book clubs allow us to get our hands on multiple books at once, plus the promise of interesting books to come. One such club is Black Expressions. This is a book club devoted to African-American artists, thinkers, and personalities. The site itself is a basic one, but that’s good. It is nicely elegant in its simplicity. The color scheme is pleasing to the eye, and the layout is easy to follow. There are books on all manner of topics here. The way the club works is like this: upon signing up, you will choose three books from the list presented. This will be your initial order, and it will be wonderfully inexpensive. After that, you will need to purchase at least four more books at regular club prices within two years. It really is a fantastic deal. Also, you will receive the club magazine, which presents additional opportunities to make purchases. Satisfaction is guaranteed, and you may return your initial three books within ten days if dissatisfied. Your membership will then be cancelled. All in all, this is a great deal. If you have interests in African-American culture and ideas, this is a great place to start exploring. |
